Adult Student Chances

I'm 26, finally ready to do college (omg I'm so old I know I know). I had my son when I was 16, and yes I did finish hs, graduated in 99, but my gpa was around 2.3, due more to aimlessness and misguided giftedness than anything else. I took the SATs in 2002 and got 690v and 660m... should I try again for higher scores? I sent off an email to admissions and was encouraged to take classes at the local cc as I had proposed in my email, thus to rack up some points in defense of my hs gpa. I just can't help wondering... is this admissions guy just being nice?

*First, congratulations on making a decision to continue your education. From the information you provided, I would recommend that you take classes at MCC for a year beginning this fall if possible before applying to New College. The first semester you may want to take three classes to begin the transition back to school and then take 15 hours in the spring which represents a typical load at New College.

We could better advise you after seeing a high school transcript. So I encourage you have an official copy of your high school transcript sent to us. You should also arrange an appointment to meet with Sonia Wu. Sonia works with our transfer students. She can discuss a plan with you to make your application to New College more competitive.

Best wishes*

I emailed Sonia Wu a week ago and have gotten no reply.

I've always had a gift for writing, but I'm not sure where to go with the essay and other questions on commonapp. Should I be creative and cynical and witty, which is something I'm particularly good at? I thought that would be the way to go (I live in sarasota, dated a nc student, have alum friends, hung out at palm court... I feel like I know the school), but after reading some stuff on here I'm wondering if I should be going for the serious scholarly style of writing that I find so boring.

But first things first, am I wasting my time?

And yes, I'm liberal. Fitting in to the ncf scene wouldn't be a problem for me.

Sorry, this post is ridiculously scattered, I'm tired... :P
