Adv and Disadv of Greek Life

Hello

I am very social person. I have absolutely no problems making friends. I like to party but i also work hard to keep my grades up.

What factors should I consider while deciding whether I should join a sorority? I am looking at various housing options - and I notice that some of the dorms claim 60% Greek vs 90% Greek. How would this affect me should I choose to not "rush"?

Thanks

You should probably look at freshmen only housing. Sorority girls tend to hang out only with other sorority girls.

There’s a lot of advantages of greek life if you do it right. If you choose the sorority that your most comfortable with then you have a group of friends whom you share a bond for life, networking opportunities, a lot of philanthropic work, a lot of leadership positions, a lot of social events, learn time management and how to deal with a lot of different people from different backgrounds from yourself.

I don’t really know many disadvantages but one is that some non greeks or gdis try to destroy the greek system or force their beliefs on other people to spread negative connotations of the greek system around campus. I don’t really understand why people want or have the time to do this.

Things to consider before pledging and during rushing are money obligations, can you see yourself hanging around these people for the next four years and more, and balancing pledging with your school work.
