Advanced Critical Reading Prep??

I took the SATs for the first time in Jan. and got 660 on CR, as well as 800 on math and 770 on writing. What's the best way to increase my CR score to the 700+ range? Are there any good advanced CR prep books?

CR was always tough for me too... I ended up memorizing a lot of vocab words because I kept missing sentence completions. Memorizing is a lot of grudgework but those couple of questions can make a difference. You might want to check out Sparknotes' 250-word list, if you haven't already. RocketReview's 323 (?) word list is also good - a little more basic - and I think it's been posted on this board. Don't worry about really obscure words, and learn to be good at guessing what words mean based on what they "sound" like or seeing words that are similar that you know... develop your own strategies here.

As for the reading passages, I think it's mostly a matter of practice and getting to know what types of questions will be asked (there are definitely patterns). Also, you may want to try different ways of reading the passage -- skimming first, or reading over questions and then go back and read, or answer questions as you go, or some combination of those... experiment and see what works for you. Also, here is a good website about certain types of CR questions: http://www.novapress.net/sat/strategies.html

Hope that helps, and good luck!
