Does UVA allow a student to move up to sophomore status if he has 30 hours credit through the Advanced Placement program?

It really makes no difference in anything you do at UVA. If it's the time of thing you lose sleep over, maybe I should introduce you to my buds Jack Daniels and Jim Beam...

0-30 hours = freshman, 30-60 = sophomore, etc. irregardless of time spent in college.

although, I believe, at UVa it's called "first year", "second year", etc.

Hahaha. If you're an Echols Scholar it really makes no difference what standing you have imo. But if not.. I think so. I've had many family friends graduate in three years from UVa. But I'd guess the problem is, why would you want to? (Implying that UVa is that great =P).

Yea, really, there is no point in leaving after three years. You could either stretch three years worth of classes over four years (more fun?) or take more upper level classes (more preparation for graduate school? better application?).

Note that UVa uses two things - academic level and academic year (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc year you hear so often). While your academic level will move up with additional ap credits, you will not be a 2nd year or the like. You will get to register earlier (assuming you're not echols/rodman, as then it wouldn't be any significant difference), but you are not 2nd year for say getting parking.
