Advanced vs Regular Econ Track

Hey everyone! I will be a freshman at Amherst this year and I’m 99% sure on pursuing i-banking after college (everything could still change, but I like to plan). I hope to go to business school, and maybe I’ll eventually work for a hedge fund or in private equity. I don’t want to get too ahead of myself, but that’s my mindset right now.

The regular economics track minimally requires intro to calc. The more advanced economics track minimally requires multivariate calc, and the advanced core theory courses seem much more math intensive.

If I want to go work right after college rather than doing a PhD, is there any point in taking the advanced core classes? Do most people going to work in finance or consulting after graduation go the regular route?
