Heres the deal: I got an 800 on both writing and critical reading, but a 720 for math. Yes, I know it seems weird to be considering a retake just because of the math, but my GPA/rank really blows. With a bit of prep, I'm 50-60% sure I can get an 800 on math. Time and effort issues aside, would you retake if you were in my shoes?

One more consideration is that I'll get a $1000 scholarship if I get a perfect score.

Oh, are you also 100% sure you can get 800s again on CR & Writing? Because I was pretty sure I'd do just as well on Math on my SAT retake... i ended up dropping 70 points, but raising my CR & Writing by 80 and 40 respectively. so yeah... don't take it again unless you're pretty sure you can get a 2400 or just improve on the test.

it doesn't matter, they take your best scores from each section and combine them. Like, if you got a 750 on math and a 600 on CR when you first took it, then retook it and got 680 on math and 700 on CR then it would just look like 750 math and 700 CR.

What do you mean by the UC's won't look at the higest composite? So they too look seperately at the highest scores, or do they have to be at one sitting?

UC's look at one sitting. Most privates look at highest from each section... which is why i'm not retaking the SAT again. plus, i don't want to spend another summer studying for SAT. that was NOT fun.
