Advantages of CMU over University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

says u need 33 act or sat equivalent - i have 32 act but 720CR/740M/740W looks lik im borderline

I read with interest your comments about cmu and the caring attitudes. I have also experienced this. I am curious about your housing issue. Our s is an SCS student; he was in temporary housing until last Thursday, and was moved into an off-campus apartment. We have already discussed with housing services our concerns about distance to campus, ease of meeting other freshman, responsibilities that we were not anticipating as a freshman. We are still in a wait and see situation as we help our s evaluate this. I would be appreciative of any advice.

The some of the apartments are sometimes closer to classes than Donner. Definitely nicer.

cmumom- I think that all you can do is wait. Once all the freshmen are out of temp housing (could be another month, who knows), he might be able to move to campus, but by that time it might be more of a pain than it's worth. Encourage him to go to the activities fair tomorrow (Wed.) from 3:30-6:30 so he can join some organizations and meet freshmen and upperclassmen. Study groups for 21-127 homework is also a good way to meet other CS freshmen- many people have difficulty with the class and end up working together, often doing more socializing than working.

Go to Mudge to study together and expand your friend network from orientation (which was a full week). What KrazyKow said works too.

At least with my son's class, within maybe a month 100% of temp off-campus kids were moved onto campus. I'm not sure about this year though.

Do dorm rooms open up because students move into fraternities/sororities, or do they still live in the dorms after pledging? The CMU web site lists greek life on the housing site but never explains when or how the students move. Might be a way to get rid of the partying suitemates!

From my experience about half of the frat kids move to the frat houses after they get in and a greater majority do so the following year (or they get off campus housing).
