I was wondering what the advantages to applying Early Action were. How does it affect the financial aid? Is it a smart idea to apply early to safety schools? Thanks.

If it's a safety school, you don't need to apply to have an admission advantage: that's the definition of "safe." If a safety school lets you knew results early, then you don't have to worry about getting admitted to at least one college.

does it poorly affect the financial aid package that one would receive in RD?

Early action is wonderful. Getting accepted EA is really taking care of the safety issue. It does NOT affect financial aid. At some schools it gives you first dibs at merit money. It can cut down your list. Also take off some of the stress. If not accepted, a student can re evaluate his list and shape it accordingly.

A disadvantage with EA is that you don't get the impact of that last thrust with senior grades and more chances at the SATs if necessary. Also it is a downer to get bad news early on.

thank you so much!
