Advantages of taking SAT sophomore year?

I haven't taken the PSAT this year, but I can register for taking the SAT in May. My question is: Is it worth it? I would like to get my essay graded to see what I can expect come my junior year SAT. It would also be helpful to see what things I should work on for the actuals... BUT I do have questions:

-Say by some freak accident of nature I got a... 2300. Can I use that as my final SAT for colleges? Or do they not count sophomore year?
-On the other hand, say I got a ridiculously low score; can I choose not to include my sophomore score when I apply for colleges?
-If I did get a low score but got a much higher one junior year & included both on my application, would colleges appreciate the improvement?

Give me your opinions, I want to know if it's worth it overall. Thank you :D

Your SAT score will show up if you take it sophomore year (actually all scores from freshman year & on for SATI & SATII, so don't take it unless that's OK with you that colleges see it. I'd suspect your teachers would be able to give you a fair assessment of what they believe you might score for the essay portion, BUT it may change by the time you're a junior or senior because there has been a LOT Of criticism about it & most colleges are viewing it very cautiously (if at all) this year.
At my kids' HS, they advise taking SATI & ACT & SATIIs all in your junior year, so you have the extra time to prepare & do well but still have enough time to retake if needed. That's what most of the kids do & most get into the schools they want.

I took it in January as a sophomore; I got 2330.

Finished with the SAT I
