Advantages to Committing to UCLA Early?

Are there any advantages to committing to UCLA early (before May 1st deadline) I'm 90% sure I'm going but the extra time would be nice. However, my friend who committed to Berkeley said that one signs up for orientation after committing. Earlier orientation dates lead to better chance of getting the class one wants. Does UCLA work the same way?

no because UCLA orientation sign-ups aren’t until June.

What about housing and similar things one “signs-up” for?

lottery system => no advantage

None. Housing is done on a lottery basis for freshmen.

Can’t think of any advantage whatsoever… unless you forgot to submit your SIR on by the deadline. (Not sure what happens in that case).
