advertising and design

wow, i have a whole bunch of questions for you guys!!

let me tell you guys somehting about myself first. i'm an international student and now go to a college in the Washington state. but it's not an art college. this is my first quarter, and i'm worrying about choosing classes and trasferring things. i'm very interested in arts and communication. i've been googling information, and i found that advertising or art management would be the best combination of my interests.

as like many students, however, i've got financial problems. so i have to get my bachelor diploma as soon as possible. another solusion is to apply for a scholarship that is offered by the government of my country. however, they don't give out scholarsip unless i get into a world famous university or college(has to have a nice ranking, dude), i realized that arts schools usually don't get in the ranking, such as art institutes. even art institutes is a famous and good art school.

the link below shows what universities and colleges are considered as world famous (the second page is for the states)

<a href="http://www.dsej.gov.mo/%7Ewebdsej/openweb/view_uploadfile_page.php?board_name=newstemp&searchnews=特別獎學金&pageis=0&start_msg_date=1998-06-01&end_msg_date=2007-11-01&howcount=10&mode=c&nolimit=1&gsearch=1&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&board_name=form_subsidio&board_name=form_subsidio&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&board_name=msix&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&&board_name=cnews&msg_id=2733&sub_id=2%5B/url%5D">http://www.dsej.gov.mo/~webdsej/openweb/view_uploadfile_page.php?board_name=newstemp&searchnews=特別獎學金&pageis=0&start_msg_date=1998-06-01&end_msg_date=2007-11-01&howcount=10&mode=c&nolimit=1&gsearch=1&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&board_name=form_subsidio&board_name=form_subsidio&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&board_name=msix&board_name=cnews&board_name=cnews&&board_name=cnews&msg_id=2733&sub_id=2</a></p>

i'm also considering about getting a bachelor degree and do the intership thing, then work for a while so that i can save some money to purue another degree. so i don't have to apply for scholarship for the second degree.

i've been thinking about boston univ for advertising. do you guys think that they have a good advertising program? what univ or college would you recommend me?
for the second degree, i would like to go for real designing. what school(s) would you recommend me?

or i should just go to art institute for advertising and graphic design(if i got it right, it should just take me 4-5 years to get both ad and gd degree). but i don't see they really emphasis advertising communication and management(along the ad program and gd program, 2/3 of the classes are the same). or do you think that actually doesn't matter?

i've been planing on my career, but i don't really know what is actually goin on in the society. am i too silly to plan too many school years and diplomas? if you were me, how would you plan your career?

I am not sure that anyone can really help you here. Advertising and graphic design are two DIFFERENT majors. Advertising is found in communication programs (usually) and graphic design is usually found in visual arts programs. There are some programs that are mostly graphic design with some advertising built in. These are labeled as “Communication Design.” Carnegie Mellon has such as program,but it is VERY expensive, and they don’t usually give any aid to international students.

Syracuse University, school of Communications,might be a good choice since it has advertising and graphic design too.

Another excellent choice would be Temple University,who is merging with the Tyler School of Art that will be located on the Temple Campus.
