I need help deciding where would be best to go if i want to major in advertising...

do you guys know universities with top notch advertising programs?

For now I am considering Boston University (as my first choice) and then Syracuse...

which are the best?

UT-Austin has an AMAZING Advertising program. I believe that they are one of the only programs that offers a PhD specifically in Advertising and not just Mass Communication. I took a couple of classes and they were both really interesting and informative.

I have a couple of friends that majored in Advertising at UT and they've all gone on to good jobs pretty quickly after graduating. The UT Advertising department's website is http://advertising.utexas.edu/ I suggest you take a look. :)

really? that was my last choice if i ddnt get into BU or syracuse...and i planned to go there for my PhD eventually ^^

I would suggest that you contact the different Advertising departments and get a feel for them. Maybe one is a better fit for you than others. Maybe one has better connections in the agencies you're interested in. Some of those types of things are hard to know unless you contact the departments individually. Another way to go about it is to ask advertising professionals (if you know any) what they think of each program and whether there are any particular strengths or weaknesses you should be aware of there.

Finally, my understanding is that summer and semester internships are key in getting into the advertising world. So, consider your internship opportunities at each school. I know that Austin has several great agencies where you could intern during the school year and I would imagine Boston does too. There may not be as many options in Syracuse.

Also, UT's advertising dept has a lot of info about rankings and such for Advertising programs at http://advertising.utexas.edu/whoweare/reputation.asp
