Advertising vs. Marketing, and Graphic Design

What are the main differences in these majors (Advertising and Marketing)? I've read that often these are interchangeable (a major in either one can go into either field). How true is this?

Also, I've had a strong interest in Graphic Design for about 4 years (since I started designing my own web pages at 11), and have also read that this is a good complement to these careers. Is this correct? If so, which major would be better, Advertising or Marketing? Can I minor in graphic design?

I'm leaning towards Marketing, because I believe this one is more mathematics oriented, and I'm fairly good at math (by high school graduation, I'll have had 7 years of math). However, it's not something I particularly enjoy.

I suppose my main question is, what major would suit me best, and if/how can graphic design fit into this.

Ha - I'm asking the same questions - I have my own web publishing business and am interested in web marketing.

Babson had a few profs that were into it but I'm still searching

The graphic design market is SO oversaturated right now...good luck finding a job in that field! I'm not saying not to pursue your passions, but definitely make sure that you have a backup.

yeah it is - but graphic design is only a small part of advertising which is just a small part of marketing.

Actually, I'm really trying to find a college that is looking at the bigger picture of the internet and society - MIT does stuff at the grad level but not sure if anyone besides Babson is doing much undergrad
