I am a freshman in high school, and I go to one of the top high schools in CA. Thus, my classmates are very smart. I feel stupid compared to them because I have a 4.33 weighted gpa while 6 people have a 4.45 weighted. Conceptual physics is the subject I have a B in, 1% away from a B+. what do I do? I was so used to being the top 4.0 student in middle school..

Two things that may or may not help you. First is to just try your absolute best and give it your all. No one, including yourself, will be able to question you if you try your hardest.

The second thing that I’ve done, at least for myself, is think about this: in 2 years, will anyone care about your grade in one class? Or any class? What about 5 years? 10? 20? My belief is that high school is meant to help you explore, but it won’t set your future in stone. Good luck though!

I agree with beatles11 -just do your best . It’s so easy to get distracted -think about the BIG PICTURE ! Maybe do some volunteer work ,and see how many are less fortunate than you .

As general advice, seeing the teacher for extra help and with your questions shows that you are serious about the class. This can earn you that “bump” to the next grade if you are almost there or grant you a bit of leniency on your work. I handed in a terribly formatted takehome test for AP Chem, the teacher yelled at me for it but said he would do me a favor and gave me a 100. Get to know your teachers (plus it helps for getting LoRs and being recommended for certain ECs)

My astute father has given me much advice over the course of junior year when I was struggling with balancing my numerous AP’s and extracurricular activities. I remember lucidly that I was frustrated the first semester of junior year and my father told me the following.
- Compete only with your own best self.
- Steadily move towards your own worthwhile goals.

Inevitably, people in life especially in high school are going to ask for your SAT score, gpa, SAT IIs, whether you’ve done any internships etc and compare you to them and possibly assess and judge you on what you’ve told them
However, you should never get down on what they tell you. I advise you to just stay motivated, passionate, and courageous in life and you will find yourself successful
