Advice about financial aid

I have a question about how financial aid works for parents that have remarried.

So my dad and his girlfriend just got engaged. I know i will be fine for the 2010-2011 school year because it is based off his 2009 taxes.

He knows that when they get married, that their income together will mean that i will not get close to as much financial aid( ucla fin aid calculator estimates i will get 0 based off their salaries together) but i qualify for the blue and gold program with just his.

I was wondering when the earliest he could get married where it would still only use his finances for the fafsa? Jan 1st 2011? Or after that? I really dont know

Could they get married in fall and file separately and only include his? I dont think im able to do thisbecause it says you are supposed to include both if your parents are married.

I am figuring this out for my senior year 2011-2012. Thanks for any help

tell ur daddy to keep the snake in the cage for at least 2 more yrs until after u finish school. they can get married afterwards

yeah in an ideal world that would be the case. If they got married a year from now I would be fine because my FAFSA would already be in for my final year. I hope he can calm his **** long enough for that.

well if they just got engaged then im pretty sure they won’t get married for at least 1 year. my friend took at least 10 months planning the wedding and was engaged for like a yr before they started even planning

yeah but how big of a wedding was that…im sure the older you are the less you care about having an extravagant wedding. Id be ****ed if i miss out on like 15k of grants my senior year cuz they cant wait 6 months…

but just in case they get married this fall, im gonna try figuring out how I could not include her finances…

but on the bright side, the lakers just smashed on the jazz without kobe and bynum :)

Just ask your dad and fiancee to hold off until your financial aid is good to go for the rest of your school. Are they really going to screw you over for a ton of money for school just so they can have a stupid peice of paper? Im assuming they both been married before so they should know that going to the courthouse to get a peice of paper doesnt mean squat!
