Advice after 1st practice test

Okay, I completed my first BB test technically yesterday since it's late at night here now.
Without any prior studying:

560 MATH
650 CR (680 but had to take out the ones I got wrong, which made me deduct 3 points from my raw score)
Writing 43 scaled, meaning

If I got a zero on the essay, I'd have a 560.
If I got a twelve on the essay, I'd have a 730.

Assuming both the bottom and top:

Bottom - 1770
Top - 1940

I'm a very strong essay writer, so I should probably be able to get at least a 10. The writing score would be 700.

I haven't studied anything at all yet, but I need some tips on getting my math score up. I don't consider myself that bad at mathematics, but I didn't get a very good score. Calculus is what I'm good at. I've taken up through Differential Equations already. I'm sure this section can be won with some hard work.

My goal is to break 2000. I've never taken the SAT before, but I'm signed up for November 6th. I have about a month to do it. Is it possible to rise enough to break the 2000 barrier for myself with my initial scores?

Try writing an essay before you assume anything. I thought I was a strong essay writer, then I got a 7/12 on the real SAT, and I thought I’d get at least a 10…

You don’t need to mention 680 because CB only cares about the score you get after deducting wrong questions. Your writing MC scaled score is 68, which is a good start. It’s entirely possible to go over 2000 in a month. Since it’s your first time SAT prepping, buy a review book like PR or Kaplan and review test-taking strategies and math concepts (I’m assuming a 560 means you’re unfamiliar with some of the material on the test). The math is relatively easy compared to CR and writing, so raising your score to 650+ shouldn’t be a problem. However, a month might not be enough time to work on your essay/writing MC questions, but do your best, I guess =</p>

If you try hard, I’m sure your scores can look something like this:
Writing - 720-740
CR - 700-720
Math - 650-670
for a composite score of 2070-2130, well past your goal of 2000.

Thank you. I’m feeling a little more confident now than I was. And yeah, I was pretty unfamiliar with the math material so I’ll need to go over it. I bought some prep books already that I haven’t opened, but I don’t know if Barron’s or Gruber’s(sp?) are any good. Just got them in the mail this morning. I’ll check out PR and Kaplan.
