Advice for 2016 Likely (Wharton) Recipient

D2 was fortunate recipient of likely letter from Penn (Wharton). Would appreciate any advice or insight from current Penn parents/students on the Penn experience. For whatever it is worth (probably not much), other schools under consideration are Princeton and Stanford. Thank you in advance for any advice or insight you may offer.

Congratulations. Not much insight to offer, except that I am dying of envy.
At any rate, both are fine colleges. I have applied to both. I personally would choose UPenn, due to its cognitive/computer sci dual degree.
But if I wanted to go into business, I’d pick UPenn also, probably.

If D2 is truly passionate about business, I’d recommend Wharton. Not only does its name and long-standing reputation hold weight in numerous industries, but Wharton teaches applied economics and business fundamentals, something that a Stanford or Princeton Economics degree doesn’t focus on (those are more theoretical economics). I think these are some key factors for anyone serious in a future career in business.

Is your D a recruited athlete?

Depends on what she wants to do long-term. Is she planning on getting an MBA down the road? If yes, she might want to get a non-business degree as an undergraduate. Lots of Princeton undergraduates end up working in consulting and on wall street (even the non-Econ/ORFE majors), and Princeton has an incredible alumni network. She can’t go wrong either way, but as an undergraduate experience, I think Princeton is better. Don’t know anything about Stanford.

Yes and no. She was recruited, but not at Penn, and would not play her sport at the varsity level at Penn.

If your D is not passionate about finance/business, I think she may enjoy Stanford, Princeton better.
