Advice for a 2010 transfer!!

Congrats to everyone who got in as transfers for 2009! I'm just looking to see if I can get any feed back on my chances/app/advice to get into Amherst as a Community College transfer from all you guys who have gone through the process. I know it's early, but I need to start preparing now!

Some background...

I graduated H/S in 2008, but my record isn't anything to be proud of. I ended up with a 2.8, but did decent on my SATs. I was editor-in-chief of my high school news paper, did various clubs, and other EC's outside of the school. I ended not accepting any acceptance from the mediocre schools that I got into as a Senior in high school and decided to take the fall semester off. I was given a scholarship to take part in a cultural immersion program in India from July to January were I took intensive Hindi, lived with an Indian family in a small city, had a service project, as well as a small independent study project.

Now...

When I cam back I enrolled in a community college here in Western Mass. that Amherst does have a small affiliation with. I just finished up my first semester with a 4.0 and am enrolled in the Honors Program. I've also tried to give myself some new and more unique EC's on top of working part time. I am a "school volunteer" at an inner city school where I run a weekly book club with "at risk girls." I also am helping run a youth inner city agriculture program which I have ended up investing a lot of time and energy into. From time to time I volunteer at the local soup kitchen and help run retreats for a church group. I also am continuing my Hindi on my own with my own tutor.

This summer, I've decided to take on a full course load to make up for the semester that I took off so that I will have an AA by Spring 2010.

What should I be looking to do beside get straight A's? Should I get involved with more of the EC's at my CC? Also, what classes should I be taking? I briefly talked to the Amherst office a month or two ago and they just told me to take the most difficult course load I can take. I'm debating on whether I should attempt at Calc. I plan on majoring in Islam/South Asian studies which I don't believe requires a math. But, would an A in Calc (which I'm not sure is possible) really beef up my transcript?

My other question is, what do you think about sending in extra letters of rec? I know I can get excellent letters from the girl I work under in the youth agriculture program as well as the principal of the school I volunteer at. Would flooding them with letters be a mistake?

I NEED AS MUCH ADVICE AS I CAN GET!
