advice for a high school junior...

what do i need to focus on if i'm seriously considering notre dame...

act, sat or both? worthy scores?

sat II- to be honest i've just started looking at these. ne advice would be appreciated.

how much does minority status and legacy weigh in?

how much does athletics play in?

anything at all would be appreciated... thanks!

my friend is most likely going there and she only took the ACTs. she says that central schools look at ACT scores a lot. her sister goes there too and neither of them play sports

I'd say about a 1400, preferably higher, on the Old SAT standard would make you competitive.

As for the other stuff, I'll let more knowledgable people talk about those.

Notre Dame doesn't really seem to care if you take the SAT or ACT. Some people think that they prefer the ACT but I don't think so because they are a national, not regional school. I went to Creighton before Notre Dame and you could tell that they spoke in terms of the ACT, but that is because most of their students are from Nebraska and most all of them were from the midwest. However, Notre Dame students come from all over the nation and even all over the world (though there were some international students at Creighton, don't get me wrong) and because of that they have to be open not only to the ACT but also the SAT. So, either will work, there appears to be no preference.

Legacy and minority will help a great deal. Athletics help, but aren't essential as long as you have some other activities. They just want to see that you were active in your school so hopefully you will be active at Notre Dame.

Focus on getting above a 1400 like Kevdude said and then just really get your rank up, above top 5% of your class will look great. Good luck!

thanks.

so, it seems like not both...?? a good score in either act or sat would be good, right?

also, can things like rank, and minority status, rigorous schedule etc. make up for scores that are... let's say lacking? or is it an all around thing?

Yes, a good score on either test will work. Also, if you have moderate scores but the rest looks good, you still have a chance. ND is known for looking at the whole package so that will be in your favor. Good luck!

that sounds positive!

i have another question. how does activity in a catholic church weigh in?

unfortunately, I don't think it matters much other than it counts as an EC, sorry :(.

I would choos ACT or SAT based on what is traditional from your area of the country. that is what they will expect to see from there. UNLESS you have reason to believe that you will do much better on one than the other. Then you could take that one.

I disagree, I would take both. They are actually quite different tests with quite a different feel and it is very possible that you may do much better on one than the other. Because of that, I would go ahead and take both. There is no reason why not to and I don't think that ND will wonder why you took the SAT in Nebraska. Sorry Eli, just how I see it.

well, i AM from the midwest so i would traditionaly go for ACT. i have taken both and will probably work my scores for both and see how it goes.
