Advice for a high schooler?

Hey!

I’m a freshman in high school, and I live in NYC, moving to the bay area (ca) next summer.

Firstly, I was wondering if you know of any good programs over the summer. My parents can pay for them, but they want me to get a summer job instead, so I’d either need a merit scholarship, or I can attempt to convince them to pay as long as it isn’t crazy expensive.

Secondly, I was wondering if there are any opportunities during the school year you could think of. I can’t use my phone as it is old and slow, but I was thinking of saving up for a camera. I already make imovies, but i don’t really have anyone to use for them (only my sisters) so they always end up being more experimental-ish…

Literally ALL advice is great!!

Thanks!

Your HS in CA might have film production classes where you and the other students make digital shorts together. Or you can gather up some theater kiddos to act and photography kiddos to shoot and creative writing kiddos to write scripts and do it on the side.

For summer programs, use the search box in college confidential.
Here is one thread where I chimed in during the past

Besides these programs, there are also smaller, inexpensive programs at Interlochen, Idllywild etc.
Good luck.

thanks! @YoHoYoHo that thread was very helpful!
