Citation of this definition of “racism” in an academic work? Generally, I do not see such a definition (which is different from academic papers focusing on studies of racism against non-white people) other than from the left leaning activists who tended to accuse their opponents of racism but defend their allies and supporters even when the latter make racist (in the usual dictionary definition) statements.
I agree with ucbalumnus on this one. I’ve found nothing that tells me lalalemma’s broad definition of racism is the one that’s generally accepted in the academic community. “Racism” sounds like a term that academics would endlessly argue about.
Juillet, I was referring to people who get in your face about their ethnicity and come off as very accusatory, like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. I think they do more to exacerbate tensions than solve them. Otherwise, what you wrote in your post makes perfectly good sense.
