Advice for a poor score? :/

I took World History SATII and did poorly. I got a 620. I understand that I cannot cancel my score. I will be in APUSH and AP Euro next year. Should I retake this test? I took it as a freshman and I'm freaking out. My only issue is that World History is not available to be tested very often, and I think I would lose much information about African and Asian history if I retook it. Any advice?

That’s a great score! According to to the released percentiles( <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools; ), you are at 60%, which means you have done better than 60% of other students. You are on a great track and have nothing to worry about!

Don’t bother, it’s fine. With APUSH you’ll ace the US Subject Test to make up for it.

I’m just concerned because I’m looking to go into a major involving social sciences. I want to go to UChicago, Georgetown, etc. and this score will probably look really bad.

I still may not retake because I’ll have too much going on next year… I don’t know.

Bumping this. I’m in a similar situation. I received a 640

Just retake it as a junior, or take two other SAT IIs if you think you won’t recall enough information. You only need 2 for most colleges, so there’s no reason to ever send out your 620. The only point in taking any SAT as a freshman is practice.

Nah, don’t retake it. Just take subject tests in subjects you will be taking. For example, take USH since you’ll be studying for the AP. And I’m not sure if this applies to the colleges you plan to apply to, but collegeboard has a feature called score choice in which you can hide the scoers you don’t want colleges to see.

I read the PR to prepare for this, since I dislike the organization of Barron’s. I’m kind of regretting this.

Any other input?

Did you take AP/Honors World History?

If it makes you feel any better, I got a 550 on it as a junior after taking AP World History. I did well in the class and on the AP.
Don’t worry about it, you’ll be taking more the next two years.

@LimitlessProd Yes, I was in AP.

@Aerobug Hopefully you didn’t freak out about it as much as I did! :b

I don’t think I’ll be retaking it, especially since they don’t offer it in a recent month like September. I can’t prepare for it in December.

In that case, I would say it would depend on where you apply to. If you’re applying to Ivy League (or close to) schools then kill the rest of your Standardized Tests and it won’t matter too much. If you’re applying to schools to which you can send the scores you want forget about it and focus on other things.

No I didn’t freak out about it because I knew I failed. I didn’t study, I was so done with world history by that time I didnt care. :stuck_out_tongue: and I did much better than I expected on my other tests.
You get to send in what you did well on and hide what you didn’t. Colleges are hardly gonna look at subject tests anyway, if at all. Colgate (one of my top choices) doesn’t.
