advice for a potential Community college student

im wondering about the difficulty it takes to transfer from CC to a UC
some concerns i have is that the community colleges where i live such as De Anza are greatly impacted, and ive been told by many people is very difficult to get classes, therefore being stuck in cc for 3+ years. however if i go to De Anza im preety sure i can qualify for the honors program (my test scores qualify for me to get in the honors program). ANother question is which UC would be best for me to transfer to for my majors?

i have been accepted to SJSU and im waitlisted for SCU
i intended to major in business or social sciences and hopefully go to law school

im preety stuck between which direction i want to take. SCU is im accepted, sjsu, or de anza

please help! thank you

go to de anza. if you can get 3.9 and up. you can go to ucb. good luck

Transferring from a CC (especially a California CC) to a UC is relatively easy. CCC students are given priority over university students and you just have to maintain a good GPA while following the major pre-reqs on ASSIT.org and follow IGETC. If you choose to transfer to any UC but UCLA and UCB, you can even have Transfer Admissions Guarentee if you have a 3.0 or higher and complete all of the required classes.

Some CCs are worse off than others. For instance, I’m attending RCC and they’ve cut many of the classes and registration is very high as people are going to CC to save money. Registration is a nightmare. However, I’m in the honors program, which is pretty small, so I can get into many of their classes. If the De Anza program is small, then you shouldn’t have much of a problem getting honors classes. I am also attending Moorpark College distance education, and it’s super easy to get into classes there. As far as I know, MC is not having a major budget problem like RCC.

Basically what I’m saying is if your CC is super-impacted, I would suggest that you register with a CC that is better off and take their online classes.

As far as your third question goes, I’m not familiar with SCU, SJSU, or the business/social science programs of all of the UCs but UCLA and UCB are top schools in basically everything. I would recommend you try for them, but you should also do your own research into which schools are the best for you.

Good luck. :)

Alright, lenora is spot-on, and definitely knows what she’s talking about.

I go to College of San Mateo, which is actually near De Anza, and it’s SOO easy to get classes here. I highly recommend it if you can go here. If not, De Anza isn’t that bad. You would be able to get out in 2 years. Just make sure that you take transferrable classes, and focus on which classes you need for your major on assist.org.

For business/social science…I can tell you hands down, Berkeley is the place for you. For Business Admin (Haas) Berkeley is definitely top 10…maybe top 5. As a social science major, such as in psychology, Berkeley is basically 3rd to Stanford and MIT. UCB is ranked top 10 in nearly all social science majors.

It’s very possible for you to get in, and if you do decide to apply to Haas, you’ll need a 3.8+. For a social science major, a 3.6+. Best of luck to you!

UCB, UCLA, USC are good for business/social sciences. Depends on how much you want to spend.

Im currently at MtSAC and its pretty impacted as well. Just finding parking alone is EXTREMELY troublesome. To put it in perspective on a smaller scale, 50 parking spots. 100 students. 50 faculty, 20 visitors. So you can imagine just how much of a pain in the A$$ parking can get. And thats not even close to how hard it can be to get classes.

Your best bet of getting classes is to make a lot of friends with early registration dates, join the student government, be an athlete, or are disabled.

Good luck man. No matter what school you go to, make sure you take advantage of everything they offer (tutoring, finical aid, library, student services, etc)

at my CC we can sign up for FREEEEEEEEEEEE college tours to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UC’s in general. For UCB we get to stay for free, get free food, and free ride. Can it get any better? I just went to go to norcal and hang out with friends for free lol.
