Advice for a sophomore... :)

Hello CCers!! :D
i think the title says it all. I would like ANY advice on sophomore year and wht to expect and focus on :)
thank youuu!!! Any advice is appreciated =]

What are you trying to improve on overall as a student?

Hey! I’m a rising sophomore as well! I’m taking AP world next year, you?

Time management mainly because I have a full load of classes and ECs after school.
What are the important things that need to be done sophomore year? What do I need to accomplish and focus on? thats my question :D

Keep your GPA up. If you’re not in too many EC’s, now’s the time to start joining a few. Starting after sophomore year makes it look like you are only doing so for college apps. If you are already in a few, work hard in them so you can get leadership positions in the near future.

@Foodlover- my school doesn’t offer AP world =/ so I’m taking regular haha =)

I was asking more as a like a reflection kinda thing. Lol sorry
I’m also a rising Sophomore though

@kns1444- ok definitely will try!! Thank youu!! :D

Hmm…start prep for ACT/SAT. It’ll save you time and trouble later on down the line. If you can, also begin prepping for your intended SAT II’s. A little PSAT prep wouldn’t hurt, either, but if you’re doing SAT prep, there’s no reason to do extra PSAT prep.

Basically, try to get your standardized tests out of the way so you can focus on GPA and EC’s more.

Also, as kns1444 said, join some EC’s that you’re passionate about. If you like guitar, start a club focused on teaching younger kids guitar or something.

@letmeseetheworld-OHHH :stuck_out_tongue: hahaha ok so I want to get my GPA up and get more involved in speech and debate and science club. I’m going to just try to explore and try and find what I really love  what r ur goals?? =]

Would anyone recommend taking either SAT/ACT at the end of the year

@Guitar
-improve my rank meaning do as well as I possibly could when it comes to grades…it’s too late to change my schedule
-join more ecs that relate to career fields I’m interested in

 • better time management skills
 • I’m eager to apply to some study abroad scholarships and language programs for the summer
 • I actually want to get close to my teachers this year and maybe be more social in general…but that’ll be a tough one in general for me

^^ I have same question  and ooh! Nice goals!! goodluckk!!
@teamrocketgrunt- oh ok! That’s great advice!! Thanks!! :)

It was a dull and boring year, for me at least. Probably because the newness of high school wore off but yet I wasn’t an upperclassman yet. Sorta the in-between year.

Study for the SAT and ACT. Join any EC’s you regret not joining freshman year. Work hard, have fun.

Take it in the spring, yes, because if you do great, then testing’s out of the way (except for subject tests, most likely) and if you don’t, then you can tell from your score how much you need to study so then hopefully you can get testing out of the way junior year.

@CE527M- Ikes I can imagine :stuck_out_tongue: ok will do thanks! =]

Around what months is testing usually done…

They have specific dates of when you can take the test:

[ACT dates](<a href=“ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test”>ACT Registration | ACT Testing Dates | The ACT Test)
[SAT dates](<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>SAT Dates and Deadlines – SAT Suite | College Board)

^^thanks

That was probably a terrible question to ask on CC of all places…

Oh nice that’s good that there are lot of options for when to take it  idk when I’ll be taking the SAT… When’s the best time to take it?? End of sophomore yr, beginning of junior, end of junior…?

I think you should take one test sophomore year just to see how you do (though your PSAT score will give you some idea). Your SAT and ACT scores will probably be comparable, so just take one. I did all my test prep sophomore year, but my scores got higher in junior year anyway.
Then you can take either the SAT or the ACT or both junior year, as well as two subject tests if your colleges require it or you want to.

Go to basketball games, football games, draw, write stories and comics. …live, laugh, and love.
Be a kid while you can. You’ll see what I mean when you’re a senior. We focus so much on the future that we betray the present…
P.S , stay off this sight until junior year/ summer before senior year.
