I will be transferring next year and I am happy but also a bit nervous. A lot of school I am applying to are in a different city but in the same state. A few are out of state completely but I’ll worry about that later. Since I will be outside of my city which I have lived in since I was a baby it would be a bit odd for me. Any suggestions on adapting to the new school and environment? I have never lived in a dorm before so how would I adapt to that if I do live in a dorm? I prefer to live alone honestly but worse case is me having roommates. How can I make new friends at the new place? What is the dorm life or me in a student apartment with roommates like? What should I do if I get nervous? My mom says it would be fun to be in a sorority but I don’t think I am someone for sororities. I am not really a party person and I don’t want to be forced to drink or party. I also heard a lot of sororities fine you if you don’t do to events even if you’re working or studying. Is that true? What if I become super overwhelmed? Any advice or tips would be very useful. Thank you very much
Approaching your new school and environment with an open mind is the first step to making the most out of your new situation.
In my opinion, dormitory life is a bit romanticized. Dorm life is living with one or multiple people in semi-cramped quarters. It obviously has its positives and negatives, but it’s overall a great experience. For most students, it’s an experience out of their comfort zone, and being in close proximity with hundreds (or perhaps even thousands!) of other students in a building exposes you to a plethora of ideas, perspectives, and experiences. As a transfer student, it’s a great way to get to know your campus and the school’s culture.
So, don’t pass up on dorm life!
Being nervous is completely natural. Embrace the nervousness, and look forward to your new college!
