Advice for a waitlisted applicant?

Hello everyone! With regular decisions rolling in, I’m feeling a little worried in regards to where I’ll end up next year. I have been accepted into my state school with a nice financial offer, however I’m not too sure it’s the right fit for me. I’ve recently been waitlisted to three schools: WashU, UChicago, and Case Western, and rejected to Stanford and Johns Hopkins. I have four more schools to hear back that are not at all easier to get into than the rest. So I guess my question is, what should I do to be a proactive applicant? Is there any hopes for getting off the waitlist at any of these schools? Just advice in general?

Any one school’s decision to go into the WL pool varies year by year. For you, if any of those 3 stil interest you, then accept a WL spot but in all other aspects move on and accept the best offer you have – congrats on the nice aid package to your state school – that’s wonderful. If one of those WLs turns into an actual offer, then see how it compares to what you’ve already committed to – then decide. You’re not bound to accept their offers. It’s up to you.

Don’t dwell on the waitlists, just accept the spot on them and move on. I was waitlisted for 5 schools last year and none of them pulled through. I am not happy where I am right now so I have applied for transfers. Just don’t get attached to hopes from the waitlists it will do more damage if they don’t pull through
