I am applying for a PG year at 3 schools Peddie, Holderness and Hill. I have a 3.2 gpa and I haven’t taken the acts or sats I got a 1210 on my psats. I am a boy scout, Play the trombone in the band made it to districts this year, Play water polo and I dive, mountain bike, ski and I am a chairmen of the eec club at my current school. Now I am not sure If I could apply to more’s school if it is tiring or three is fine. I am also concerned If I could at least get into these schools. I want to go partially for athletics but mostly to improve my grades and to do better. Any Suggestions ?
Well for one thing, Peddie does not have water polo. If you are a really good diver 18 may need you. If you are a really good skier I would look into schools that have ski teams.
I am not worried alot about athletics a little towards diving and skiing, mountain biking I have looked at holderness for skiing but I am still not sure what to continue with. I just know that If you do a pg year they look partially at athletics I am a little bit towards academics. I live in PA and holderness is a little far to go and i want to stay close depending on what I want to do. I want to know do they accept some pg’s depending on what they do ? I also heard that they looked more towards athletics. I am decent at diving if that was what you were asking about ? Also to get into a better college
What are your short-term goals? To get into a better college? To improve athletically enough to get recruited by colleges? Or just to spend an extra year maturing?
Depending on the answers to these questions might help us provide some more tailored feedback.
To get into a better college and to spend an extra year maturing
How about Loomis Chaffee? They take 20-25 PG’s and they have Water Polo and Diving. (Those could be niche sports that could help your application too, esp Diving). I also am under the impression this school is on the upswing. My son applied (rejected) and got lots of positive communication from the swim coach and team (they even go on a training trip to Florida in the winter!)

Sound’s cool Would my grades be good enough to get in ? I have a 3.4 currently I am in 11th grade and I took the acts haven’t got my scores back yet but took the psat and got a 1020. I was also thinking about holderness, hill and peddie.
I have seen evidence that they take students with grades and scores that are not top.
First post said your PSAT 1210 ; now you say 1020. There is a big difference between those scores.
You could take SAT or ACT to get a better score for admissions.
What do you think the max amount of boarding schools a person should apply as a pg or any other year applying in your perspective.
Maybe 6 maximum?
3-6 seems good.
Another strategy (cheaper) is to do a year at community college and do very well, then apply to college.
Are you full pay or financial aid? If you need FA then I would say for certain that 3 schools is not enough. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt!
Do schools give FA for PG year?
My parents don’t want me to do community and I am applying for financial aide for all three depending later on also I don’t know if they do financial aide.
If FA, apply to 6+.
The Diving and Water Polo may really help you get in.
Thanks for the confidence are there alot of pgs that apply or is it alot like applying for the other grades
