I am currently a junior in high school. Do UC's look specifically at what AP's VS what Honors classes you took? Or do they not differentiate between AP's and Honors, and just look at what your overall GPA is since both AP's and Honors are weighted equally?

Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It will depend upon your school and what type of classes are offered. If your school offers many AP classes and you only take Honors, it will not look as rigorous versus if only a few AP’s are available. Also very few Honors classes are considered Honors by the UC’s and are given the extra weighting. Example: Honors English II is not considered an Honors class by the UC’s but Honors Pre-Calc is considered an Honors class.

My school is very competitive. Almost all of our honors classes are weighted by the UC’s. All of the honors classes that I am taking are weighted by the UC’s.

@gumbymom Um if i may ask where did you get that information? I would like to know please.

For California public and private high schools, <a href=“A-G Policy Resource Guide”>A-G Policy Resource Guide; will show which ones are considered “honors” for the purpose of getting a +1 point in calculating GPA for UC/CSU admissions.

It is true that not all courses labeled as “honors” high schools are counted as “honors” for UC/CSU admissions.

^^^^Agree with ucbalum and Gumbymom. My kids were in a very tough school district in Southern California and many of their Honors classes were not weighted the same as the AP courses by the colleges. (Especially the English Honors classes).

They look at both
