Advice for college searching?

A first off note: I come from a very well off family and both my parents are willing (and capable) of helping me pay. Therefore, tuition isn't an issue when searching.

Hi College Confidential! It's my first ever post, and I do hope that you all can assist me in searching for college. Before i get on with interests and what not, here are my stats:

GPA: 3.3 UW (9-10). 3.6 UW (1st) 3.8 (2nd)
SAT: 1910 (580 CR, 680 M, 650 W)
SAT 2: (Math II 750) (US Hist 700) (Chinese 790) (Biology E 720)
AP: (Stats 3) (Biology 4) (Psychology 5) (Chinese 5) (Music Theory 4)
EC: Orchestra for 2 years, XC and Track for 1 year, Key Club for 1 year
Awards: Won 2nd place for some national competition about Chinese culture and history? hahaha truthfully even i don't know much about this.

Not really picky about weather.
Surrounding doesn't matter much too.
Tuition: refer to above.
Intended Major: Human biology

Schools looked into: NYU, UWash Seattle, UMich Ann Arbor, all the UCs, and SLO

However, comparing my stats to most of my peers (and a good amount of College Conf. haha), i feel that i'm unable to get into the schools listed above.

So for all those veteran users, if you guys can direct me to some schools with a strong biology background, that would be cool.

Zerg-
What are you planning to do with Human Bio?
PhD or med school?

That’s a good question and unfortunately I’m not really sure.

Ever since taking AP Biology, I’ve found the human body fascinating (The whole immune response and how the body works) and I want to pursue biology as a career. However, my parents (and my peers) keep telling me to be realistic and pursue medicine as my future choice. Really, i have no idea.

I’m really just looking for a college with a strong biology program

You basically just listed California’s top schools. Thanks for the post and all, but it really wasn’t helpful :/

NYU would be a low reach. Consider Boston University and Northeastern University. They would be high matches.

Do they have a strong biology program though? BU and Northeastern have really low reputation where I live

They both have strong biology programs. As you ssem to know, with your stats, acceptance at “top” universites is very iffy.

Honestly i could care less about U.S. New’s ranking profile. Going to a top university isn’t my goal, getting a good education and learning more about the human body is my goal. It’s just that schools like BU and NE have a rep of being “bad for the price”.

You have to be realistic about your chances for admission at any school. Your stats would put you below the 50th percentile of admitted students at both NU and BU. While their programs may not be as “strong” as some schools, they would still be high matches with your profile.

I would look at LACs instead of large RUs.

You could get into many of these:

and several have excellent biology programs (Rhodes, for instance).

you sound like a vanderbilt or rollins college applicant
with a safety like butler university

Hendrix College
Gettysburg College

Vanderbilt? That is not happening with a 1260 SAT.

barrk123 hendrix is amazing, but from the posters opening he does not sound like hendrix material! gettysburg I agree!
bobwallace…an application to vanderbilt is worth a shot(IMO)

What are you talking about?

Rich people can’t go to Hendrix?

of course rich people can go to hendrix and many do. it is more of a hippie school, maybe it was my reaction to the op’s opening sentence (the wording perhaps)

580 CR is in the bottom 4% at Vandy, and most of those are probably athletes. I think it’s terrible advice, but I suppose everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Some UC’s might be a reach, maybe NYU as well, so i’m not sure if applying to Vanderbilt is a great idea as Wallace said (unless you’re great on safeties). I’ve heard that BU is good, as is Penn state. But then again most of these places only accept terran.

penn state bases 2/3 of their decision of gpa
