Hi, I was just looking for some advice for a decision that I have to make soon. I am a freshmen student who is doing okay in school except for one class. I am taking fifteen credit hours for my first semester. I am pretty sure I have a's in all my classes except for one. In this one class I have about a d average which I could probably get to a c average. Now, I want to drop this 3 credit hour class and focus on the rest of my classes. I am trying extremely hard in this class but it is just not clicking. I am planning to just take retake the class over the summer at community college if I drop it. Any advice? I dont quite understand what dropping a course entails but my mom advised me that I should drop this class. Thanks.

Would this be a drop or a withdrawal? Dropping the class won't leave anything on your transcript but a withdrawal will. Too many withdrawals and your transcript begins to bad. If it truly was a drop (the drop deadline has passed at my school, I don't know about yours) then I would drop the class. If you have to withdraw from the class I'd just work my butt off and see how that goes. A C in one class won't hurt you too much.

I guess it would be a withdrawal but I honestly think that a w on my transcript would look better than a c. How exactly do too many withdrawals make your transcript look bad?

it makes it seem like you made bad decisions in course selection then decided to withdraw from them to prevent the bad grades from appearing on your record. maybe you couldn't handle the college workload and couldn't get consistently good grades with 4 classes a semester (or 5 or whatever the norm is).

a few probably won't hurt drastically, but to be honest getting a C is probably better than a W (think about it - to whomever looks at your transcript, they might assume a W would have turned out to be a C or lower - so if you can get a C, that's not any worse).

If you can manage a C, I say you should not drop the course. I agree with ugen64's logic.

On the other hand, if you'll get a D or an F, I say take the 'W'.

Alright thanks for the advice guys. I am still deciding whether I will drop the class or not. I would feel guilty if I dropped the class, but I would just feel a lot safer if I didnt have to worry about this class and just focus on the rest of my classes that I have a's in. Thanks again though

drop add period might be over you should be asking your school
