advice for letters of rec

I know everyone says to go to office hours, but what if I'm doing relatively well in class and don't exactly have any questions about the coursework? Do you think I should just play "dumb" and ask the professor questions, nonetheless?
Also, if I plan to ask for letters of rec at the end of this semester/beginning of Spring semester, is it too late not to get to know my professor? How many times would you suggest me visiting them in office hours?

No, I don’t think you should waste a prof’s time faking it if you don’t really need the help. But are you interested in their line of research? Maybe helping them with a project? Asking for their advice on achieving your goals? Is there a topic in class that you found especially interesting and you would like to talk to them more in-depth about it? I don’t think there are a set number of visits for this kind of thing. Just letting them know you a bit outside of the classroom and one-on-one.

My problem is that I don’t really like any of my science professors. Have yet to meet anyone inspiring. Only reason I go to Carlson’s OH from time to time is because he’s a part of Chilltown.

Like @NovaLynnx said, some professors are more than happy to elaborate and further discuss topics learning in class during office hours. You don’t necessarily have to be having a hard time with the course. If there’s a topic that you found interesting and that you want to know more about, you can use that time to talk to the professor about it. I can imagine that’ll certainly make you stand out.
