My daughter has asked for extensions. She is having a VERY difficult time making a decision. CIM (study with Jeff Rathbun-AD program, oboe) gave her a good scholarship, yet she will have to borrow a lot of $ due to high cost of CIM, and she already has some student loan debt from her BM & MM studies. Lynn Conservatory (study with Joe Robinson-PPC program, oboe) gave her full ride, including partial room & board grant. Both teachers are great. Any advice anyone???
Thanks!

My $0.02, but putting a student in serious debt coming out of undergraduate studies is economic suicide, especially in these times.

If she’s comfortable with Lynn, the go for it and put the money you’ll be saving away for graduate school!

We are talking about post Masters study in her case. But she does have some debt already, mostly from the Masters studies. This is what makes it so hard.

Doesn’t Joe Robinson teach one semester per year at Duke?

He has been an artist in residence at Duke in the past, and he still may be doing that. I know he travels all the time. He seems to be a very busy man.

How much debt has she accumulated for undergrad and grad? To add more on top might be unrealistic.

Just how big is the Lynn program? Any idea of number of students? Has she heard the ensembles, the orchestra, and has she sat in on a rehearal or performance? Weigh the exposure to a greater number of students and a potentially broader base at of students at CIM, and the specific chances for performance exposure. All things being equal, if she is comfortable with the peer level, I’d go with Lynn.

I’m assuming she was happy with the program since she applied.
Good luck.

D just called. She spoke with both schools at length and has made a decision. Lynn it is. WHEW! All of my Ds are set for 2 more years, unless someone gets a JOB in the meantime!
THANKS !!!
