Advice for out of state applicants applying to unc chapel hill

Hi
What is the gpa and standardized test scores to qualify for UNC chapel hill honors program?

I am an out of state student.a few weeks ago I meet with one of unc’ biology teacher to learn about the department. Should I mention this in the college application essay?

Will the school give me any break on the tuition or am I looking at roughly 50,000.00
Thanks

Use the NPC…it was accurate for us. It might not be accurate if your parents are divorced or own their own business.

Does your school have Naviance? Is there any kind of pattern for OOS acceptances?

As an OOS applicant your gpa and test scores should be high. They will also look at other things such as your essays, activities, etc. I would not mention the professor.

I just noticed that you are asking about honors. Getting accepted to the honors program as an OOS student is based on a lot more than high grades and scores.

Can you clarify- are you asking for someone else? Are you already in college ?

I am applying to college and UNC is one if my choices

There is not a set scale for honors and UNC. You are invited after being accepted. They say it’s based on evidence of intellectual curiosity. I would suppose through essays and recs.

It’s small – when my D was invited two years ago they said 400 first-years out of 4000 are in the Honors program. (I’m sure they invite more than that; not all invited attend UNC.) You can also apply your Sophomore year.

Unlike a lot of top public colleges, OOS students are considered for both merit and need aid at UNC.

If you’re doing a “Why UNC essay” and the bio prof is a factor then I think it’s fine to mention!

Good luck and Go Heels!

I agree about the essay. If you are answering a “why our school” type of question… I think it’s fine to mention a conversation with a professor in the biology dept.

I believe the Honors Program admits about 400 students. My son is Honors Carolina, I think he had to write an essay. It’s not just academic, I believe there are other considerations, as well. Good Luck!
