Hi everyone, so next yearl I will be a junior and I will be taking AP Lang. and Comp. along with some other APs. I am actually really worried about this course because essays, and analysis, and overall the "english subject" was never my forte. So, any advice? Thanks!

English Lang is one of the hardest APs to study for - alot depends on natural ability. However, you can still practice writing essays and doing multiple choice…

I absolutely loved this class. I guess it depends on the teacher but my teacher is one of the best at my school. I had a fun time and learned a lot, the ideal AP experience. Not saying it was easy; it was difficult, but difficult in an enjoying way (unlike other ap classes, i.e. APUSH). English was always an easy/slacker class for me so this was the first time I was challenged.

Okay, I only got a 4 on the test (even though on 2 practice tests I got a 5… jussst sayin…) It’s not an easy test, lol. But the experience was so worthwhile and I value that more than any silly standardized test.

You have to push yourself to think “what is the purpose of this text? what techniques is the author employing to achieve that purpose?” and instead of just listing techniques, dig down really deep and think exactly how it conveys the message.

Also, I suggest using higher-level vocabulary, especially on essays. One thing that AP essay-graders like is mature language. So diction IS important. Using big words (when in the right context) is impressive so try to learn a new and challenging word every day.
