Advice for the Future

I recently graduated from a community college and transferred to a private catholic school that gave me a huge discount on tuition. In the last couple of months it has been decided that I need to move out of my parents home. I am a Psychology major and my program through my new school was a Partnership so I was actually able to keep attending the same school.

I have decided after the Spring Semester not to return to the new school. My plan had been to transfer to a local university and move there, but due to COVID-19 I am hesitant on moving out on my own this year. My new plan is to take the rest of the year off and work. That way I can save money and return in the Spring at the school of my choosing.

I guess where I am stuck at is what to do now? Is taking a semester off actually a good idea. I am possibly a bit over worked as I have been going to school full time and working two jobs the past two years. I would also like to fatten my savings up some since I am moving out for the first time with no intentions of moving back in. At this point I have not taken any students loan out, but I will now need to since I need to pay rent and I will be paying a higher tuition.

I have been looking at local universities and also some in the Pittsburgh area since I am close. My GPA is currently a 3.5. Now that I am nixing my plan to be as frugal I am considering applying to some of my more pricey dream schools, but I am not sure if that is realistic. I have been considering to move out of state as well.

I am in need of guidance and now sure what my next move should be.

Please help if you have any suggestions. Thank you!

Money seems to be the key element here. You don’t say whether your parents will be helping you pay for college. It is unlikely you can pay for college all on your own. The maximum you can take out in loans without a cosigner is around $5K/yr I think. If you’re going to be completely self-sufficient financially then you should look at the rules for being considered an independent student for FA at schools you are considering. You might want to post in the FA sub-forum here where people have more experience.

How soon do your parents want you to move out? If they are willing to have you live there for another year while saving up, are they willing to stretch things long enough for you to finish your education?

Hi! I am paranoid of not being able to get into masters program. I want to do masters in international relations. I went to community college and then transferred to four year state university. My GPA is 2.8 and I am not sure if I can get into any graduate program. I do not have any extra curricular activities. I am foreigner first generation college student. I came to United States when I was 15 with my parents not knowing anything. Is there any hope for me?

@tkhmiad I think that that you have a very good question. However, you should start your own thread to ask it. Your question does not seem to be closely associated with the topic for this thread.
