So assuming that the miracle shots will turn to the rejected lot as expected.... and UCI is pending. Well.... i guess I'll expect the worst and pretend UCI rejected me also.

So im stuck between UCR or UCSC.

Hey you banana slugs(UCSC mascot), give my skeptical side of my brain a good smack in the head with really really REALLLY damn good and convincing reasons why UCSC is better than UCR.

The only things I've heard about SC is this...

-Naked olympics tradition (runs around campus naked O.O)
-LOTS AND LOTS OF potting/ alcohol etc ...more than average
-the campus is very very isolated from the city.....
(I heard that one of my cousin's friends.... went there....and got lost and the hassle of going home was too much..so he ended up with no fun..isolating himself in his room..because going to places was too much of a hassle)
-Cafeteria food = ......

Ok ya.... ummmm give me good facts that would override those cons

thanks in advance!

o and.... take in consideration education too...since.... I'm not going to pay and go to college just for a nice time, hot chicks, and good food. I'm obviously going there more for education so ya =]

Academically, UCSC is slightly better than UCR, although it depends on what you want to major in. I don't currently attend any campus, so there are my views and others I've heard:

UCSC: Not very diverse ethnically; very chill place; not a lot of competition; no mega-parties, just small gatherings; individual colleges usually create a sense of community (I'm assuming); stereotypically, it is a school with lots of drugs, but obviously not everyone is like this; not a very big greek/sports scene; very beautiful campus (probably the best looking of all the UC's); campus is located in Santa Cruz, which is a small town, so not a lot of big city nightlife (although San Jose is about 30 minutes away).

UCR: very diverse campus; not a very big feeling of community (it is actually ranked in the princeton review for unhappy students); a lot of people go home on the weekends; it is is SoCal, so I guess you could go to clubs and stuff; campus is kind of old and ugly, but major construction projects are currently underway, so this could change.

SC is way better academically, great environment, great campus.....and great for getting a job in the bay or getting grad schools later....in fact my sister had a UCSC alum in her grad school program at berkeley, and said it was awesome experience!

UCSC: typical beach town, fabulous weather, chill people, great atmosphere, BEACH, good professors...etc etc i'm transfering b/c i want a better english program, but if you're into a totally chill 4 years sc is the place for you

What others have said. Riverside is much more of a commuter campus. I like the weather more in the bay area than in SoCal, but that's just me -- it's basically air-conditioned by the ocean for 8 months of the year.

KatieeJr: So UCSC doesn't have that good of an English program? What school do you want to transfer to? I applied as an English major and I got in, but I want to go somewhere with a good English department. Any advice? :]

no its a long story NorCalLove - i guess i ended up with bad luck and ****ty undergrad professors, but i took lit 101 this quarter with like the best professor i've ever had...i guess it just depends on who you get. i also have like five other reasons for transfering...so UCSC does have an english program just be careful about who teaches your classes

and i'll transfer to either UCSD or UCI (still choosing between the two), and MAYBE UCLA if i get in (talk about a long shot with 13,000 transfer applications)

first off the naked run happens on the first rain of the season...my friends from other schools have said that the food is much better at santa cruz than other schools...pot/drinking happens at every school but for some reason sc has just developed some reputation for it...also the town isnt extremely far from campus, and buses are very accessible...sc has a really good science program, but i'm a music major so i dont know that much about it...personally i cried rivers when i didnt get into ucla and ucb but this turned out to be the best experience for me ---i basically love it

many of my friends go to UC Santa Cruz, they all seem to adore it. Santa Cruz is an awesome town, too. I don't see how Riverside competes w/ UCSC.

yeah i am also choosing between ucr and ucsc. Personally, i would like to stay near home near my siblings ( who are very young) yet be able to live on campus. Also ucsc has the health sciences major which is a major plus. Ucr on the other hand has the ucr/ucla med program. But i heard it was hella hard to get into if you arent an honor student. So.. i am leaning towards ucsc. I havent heard many pluses for ucr, am i right?
