I would like to transfer as a sophomore to California, Atlanta, or NYC in order of preference, to study drama and would prefer a conservatory bfa type of program. However I don’t have crazy amounts of training or experience, although I do believe the necessary skill level, but to enter a conservatory or bfa program requires audition? Should I choose a ba which doesn’t require audtion? Are those programs generally less performance intensive?
I think most bfa programs and several BA drama programs require auditions I know some BA programs do Not require audition. I don’t know of any bfa schools that are not audition based. I am sure they are out there
My recommendation after watching a group of kids go through this is to find programs You like (each school Is a bit different) Don’t limit yourself by location necessarily. You may find a great program that is not in the city you wish for. Some of the top schools are in smaller college Towns or outside big cities.
That said both LA and NYC have many options. In Georgia I only know of Savannah college of art and design. There must be many others there - I’m just not familiar. There are several in Florida and both north and South Carolina if it is weather you are after. Other good cities to look in are Chicago and Philadelphia if you want more of a city feel.
Good luck
Ok I’ll widen the search a bit, thank you!
