Advice for USC Annenberg Applicants

I'm a sophomore in high school and I've recently become interested in researching for colleges and fell in love with USC's Annenberg School of Communications and Journalism. I'm planning on majoring in journalism.

What can I do these next two years to be a solid applicant to USC?

Any advice from current students or alums of Annenberg on their application processes would be great!

Thank you!

My D just graduated from Annenberg in Public Relations. Her HS grades and SAT score weren’t up to USC standards. However, I believe the following items got her the acceptance into Annenberg: (1) high scores on the English and Writing portions of the SAT and ACT; (2) Editor-in-chief of the HS newspaper; (3) internships with local newspapers; (4) well written essays. Possible her interview with USC helped, too.

I was just admitted into Annenburg for Fall 2014. I’m an international student so I took the IB diploma and had pretty good English marks. SAT-wise, I got 760 for reading and 630 for writing. 660 for Literature SAT II. Plus, an internship with a local newspaper helped! Didn’t submit any of my articles in my app thogh…

Anyways, I believe my essays were pretty focused on why I wanted to pursue journalism, my experiences as an intern and what I planned to do. The USC ones were pretty focused on the strengths of the school, and how it can help me pursue my passion.

Hope this helps!
