Thank you!

Hi,
If I was put on the wait list and picked the option that said I was willing to take a gap year in the response form, does that mean I have no chance of getting pulled off the waitlist for the Class of 2018?

@UChicago: I’m really sorry, but I just have one other question. UChicago has always been my top choice, but I didn’t send and email to my regional counselor until very recently because I thought early April was the recommended time, and I wanted to be 100% sure that there wasn’t another school that came close to fitting as well as UChicago. When I was sure that there wasn’t and that I wasn’t reacting emotionally, I emailed my counselor but I’m worried that the time between when I received my decision and when I sent the email could be interpreted as indifference or disinterest pending other decisions, which was absolutely not the case. I read here (I should stop reading these threads, probably) that there were already applicants being pulled from the waitlist. Was I too late?

@aribman there is no need to worry about this. The timing of your note to your counselor is just fine.

Thanks again! Take care.

when you guys sent your email to the regional officer did you get a reply? if so was the reply from the regional officer or someone else at chicago and what did it say?

@njoi123 I emailed my officer about 1 week after decisions were emailed and I haven’t heard from them at all. I think it’s expected to not directly hear back from the officer saying they received it.

@UChicago I don’t fully understand how are students taken off the waitlist. Since the list is not ranked, are the students taken randomly from the pool or in some other way?
Thanks in advance

@VladaS once we have received responses from our admitted students and know we may have space for additional students, we evaluate the needs of our class (for example, perhaps we need more French majors, or a few more students from Utah, or more students involved in community service). We will then select students who have expressed interest in remaining on our waiting list to find students who we think would be a good fit for remaining spaces.

@UChicago In recent years, approximately how many students have been accepted off of the waitlist (if any)? Also, how many students have accepted their place on the waitlist in past years?

Reviving this thread for the great advice offered to waitlisted students!
