Now that current seniors are about to finish their college selection process, here's a hint for those about to go through the audition process! I've noticed that most of the participants in this discussion are parents. When I auditioned for conservatories and programs, my parents were always more nervous than I was. There are a ton of books out there that are college review books, statistics, admissions guidlines and generally guides for music majors or fine arts majors! The one I recommend the most is:

Thank you soo much :P

Hi Gettysburger - my S (a sr. this fall) has Gettysburg on his list of schools to check out. Your thoughts on your experience w/ the BA in music? (Assuming that your screen name means you're a student there, of course).
He originally was going to major in music, but he says he's now looking at a pol sci major and possibly a double major w/ music or a music minor.

Any info, tips, etc. would be appreciated!

Hey tubamom- where else is your tubason going to audition?

He's thinking Vanderbilt, Oberlin, and Ithaca at the moment. Oberlin would be a double major program, as would Vanderbilt. Ithaca calls it "music in combination with an outside field". He also expressed interest in Northwestern's 5 year BM/masters in journalism program.

He probably will apply to some of our SUNY schools as well - Potsdam (Crane School of Music) and Binghamton the most likely candidates.
