Would love an honest answer! UVA is my top choice but I am applying RD to avoid being compared to all the NYC kids that are applying REA to IV league schools.
Latina, from NYC private school
GPA 3.9/4.0
School doesn’t offer APs or IBs. But I took the maximum amount of classes
ACT 30
SAT II 730
President of Food and Hunger Advocacy Club and LatinX club
Intern at Harvard Humanitarian Initiative
Olympic Development Team for Equestrian Eventing
Essays are good.
THANK YOU!!
If your GPA is a 3.9/4.0 unweighted you’re set and being Latina will definitely give you a boost. Your ACT is honestly good enough, I got in with a 30 from Northern VA.
That could be easier for an in state student, though. OOS competition is fiercer, since UVA is one of the few top state universities that gives decent FA to OOS students.
If you’d asked a few months ago, the advice would have been to study & retake the ACT to try to gain a couple more points. Your ACT is barely above the 25th percentile.
Your logic on not applying early escapes me (what does this have to do with other students and Ivy League schools?). UVA has EA, not sure why you wouldn’t have applied in that pool.
I think schools like UVA are looking for good grades in rigorous courses. Without AP/IB, hard to tell the rigor of your classes, although I’m sure admissions has a way to ascertain that from your school. I think your ACT is on the low end. UVA is academically challenging and the student body is very smart and hardworking. Seems to me that they want to make sure you would be successful if admitted. Probably should have applied EA, but you certainly have a shot RD. I’m sure you will do great at UVA or wherever you end up. Good Luck!
