Hi, I am a high school student and I was wondering if any of you could help me in perfecting my resume or provide me with any advice to get into college. With that being said .

I go to school at University High School in Irvine California, one of the top-ranked public high schools in California. Aside from being academically vigorous and challenging, it is also home of possibly 2000 Asian Americans. All of whom possess similar characteristics; musical instrument, solid grades, good SAT /AP scores, athletic sport(s), and community service hours here and there. I was wondering if you had an advice on how I would be able to stand out amongst thousands of clones.

Now a little about myself. I am Taiwanese, as well as 1/16th Hispanic. Weird, yes, i know. To be honest, I am nothing close to a stellar student. I have poor grades, a 3.49 weighted GPA through my freshman and sophomore years. This year, my junior year, I am currently juggling a 4.0 weighted GPA. Last year, I took the AP Exam for US History and received a 5, but scored a low 680 on my SAT2s. Ive taken the SAT2 for Chinese and Math Level 2, and received 800s on both. Ive also scored a 2300 on my SAT 1. However, in my first semester of sophomore year I received 2 Cs (one in APUSH and another in Algebra 2). I managed to raise my APUSH grade to an A- the following semester, and my math grade to a B.

Here are some of the school activities that I am involved in. I have been part of Student Council for 3 years. I am the Club President of Fiddle For Fun. Fiddle For Fun is an organization that I started this year that provides free tutoring opportunities at local elementary schools. It also helps fund raise with the principals of these schools in raising money to buy school supplies. (Ive organized a jog-a-thon, a mini marathon where students gather pledges on the # of laps they run and all donations benefit the school). I am also the a board member of Model United Nations, Mock Trial, as well as the VP of Kiwins and Save Darfur! Ive been part of the school orchestra since freshman year, and played basketball and wrestling for the school team. I am also a writer for our school newspaper and magazine.

Here are some of things I participate outside of school. As I stated above, I am part of the school orchestra. I play the viola. Since freshman year, I have participated in the All-State Orchestra, All-Southern Orchestra, as well as the All-National Orchestra. This summer I had the amazing opportunity of being invited by IYCA (a local orchestra) to play in the Summer Beijing Olympics. I toured Seoul, Korea as well as Beijing, China playing my viola at various locations, including the Great Wall of China and at the Opening Ceremony. The summer of my freshman year, I spent a few weeks in Taiwan teaching English to its native speakers. I traveled to Mexico as well as Ecuador to help build homes either as part of missions or leadership programs. I will be going to India this winter break for a week apart of IYCA to spread musical awareness to the less fortunate and teach natives the basic fundamentals in learning how to read as well play a musical instrument. Along with IYCA, I have helped raised thousands of dollars to purchase violins that will be given to natives in India who possess a keen interest in learning the art of music. I also published 2 short children books, in Mandarin and English. I am a member of T.I.P, an organization that provides emotional support to victims who have experienced a life changing tragedy, such as a car crash. Ive interned for a district attorney, and am currently interning at a sports agency company. Lastly, I attend church every week, and am part of my church choir as well as its monthly visits to a nursery home.

That being said, I need your help. I am not in my top percent of my class, and do not have impressive grades. I would like to pursue a career in business managemenet. I want to be able to go to a top-notch school, such as UPENN even if its just for undergrad.. If you had any advice, please, please let me know! Thank you!
