Hey guys, Im new to this site....please tell me what you think....

I applied to UCI, UCB, UCSB, UCSD, and UCLA. My average GPA is a 3.3 and im a Philosophy major. I will have IGETC done and im a Marine Veteran. I think my essays were good but theres REALLY no way to know for SURE if you dazzled the admission officers.

Im 26 and this is my last chance to get into a UC...do you guys think i have a chance in hell? Its March 30th and still NOTHING from ANYONE!

UCI, UCSB, and UCSD are all still pending....and im NERVOUS! I dont wanna end up at CSUF!

Advice or Input please...THANKS!

Chill out, mate. All those schools have an acceptance rating above 70% with the exceptions of UCLA and UCB. Your GPA is not high, but still strong for a CC transfer student. You've got IGETC done which is a plus and you're a Vet which is another plus.

Everything is going to be ok :)

My only advice is just to wait and try not to freak out !(hard, i know!) I'm freaking out as well but there is nothing I can do about! Same goes for you! Don't worry about not hearing back, admission decisions have just started coming out less than 3 weeks ago! UCB and UCLA admission decisions are still not due out until the end of April or something. As for UCSB,UCI, AND UCSD you should hear from them in the next couple of weeks! Good luck! (I'm sorry I'm not much of a help, but I'm not an admissions officer or anything.) :)

Yeah I agree, you'll get in somewhere!

I have a 3.1, also a philosophy major, and I got accepted to UCI.

UCSD still pending.

UCLa for phil:
Average GPA for applicants - 3.37
Av for admits: 3.55
Source: UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2008

expect those numbers to go up, but they factor in other things also. If your essays were good, and your EC's decent anything can happen.

I wouldn't worry about any of the others except ucb and ucla...i think you're set to get into at least one UC between I, SB, and SD (and only if god hates you, will you go to cal state Fullerton)

best of luck!

that's a lot of responses in less than 5 min

Thanks guys! I appreciate all of the input....So basically, with a 3.3 I can count out UCLA and DEF. UCB?

you can still get into those schools, its not impossible with your gpa. You're a vet which is a BIG plus especially for UCLA.

i guess another thing too is that ill have ALL of the three available ASSIST site courses done in philosophy. It said to only choose ONE but i did all THREE thinking that UCLA or UCB would see it as being better "prepared" for my major?

for ucla and b they require all of the pre reqs done from assist, or they won't accept you (pretty much 99.99999% of the time)

oh and by the way, with this new post 9-11 GIBILL, i get FULL TUITION PAID. And i put that on my application as well....so im HOPING that will help too....them knowing that theyll get money up front for my full tuition...

whaaat.....I just took a look at UCLA and UCB philosophy articulation....there are only 3/4 pre reqs.

that seems really low

How did you fulfill the philosophy prereqs for berkeley? i thought those prereqs weren't offered at any CCC. If have those fulfilled with good grades then thats a definate big plus since most transfers don't have them fulfilled because they're not available.

Chill out devil, I'm in the same boat as you. I got into UCR, but im still waiting for Irvine, SD, and LA.

Econ Major
3.7 GPA
IGETC done by end of spring.
Marine Vet
Pretty much all major pre-reqs done

yeah im sorry....i did the 3 on the UCLA articulation....UCB didnt have any available....

ucla's said to pick one of the three offered....i did all three...

sup devil....im tryin to relax but its hard...whats up with this new gi bill anyways? when do we elect it or whatever?

I know what you mean. Im not too sure about the new GI bill, all I know is that it is awesome. Full tution paid for these UC's and E-5 monthly bah for the schools zip code. If you get into LA its like 2100 bucks a month. I'm just going to contact the VA around June or July and find out what I have to do. Good luck brother

hope all you vets introduced yourselves in the vet forum. We need a show of force!
