Hi,

I'm a student from Singapore and I took the 'A' Level examinations last year. However, I did not perform very well and now I am trying to get into a college in US or UK.

So my question now is whether should I take a number of AP examinations or should I retake my 'A' Levels again to better impress the admission officer.

I don’t honestly see why you shouldn’t do both? That being said, I’m not too familiar with the ‘A’ Level system.

The AP exams are only offered once a year, and you would not have the results in time for them to be meaningful for your college applications. Retaking the A levels might make more sense. But for advice useful to your specific situation, make an appointment with the counselors at the Singapore office of EducationUSA, [EducationUSA - Center Profile - United States Education Information Center (USEIC)](http://www.educationusa.info/USEIC) They are truly expert at helping students from your country find good places to study in the US, and they will know whether or not your current A levels are good enough for admission here.

Will you be doing your military service before you apply for your studies? That will also affect your choice of places to apply to, and exams to prepare for.

Hi happymomoof1,

I am serving my military service right now and I will finish my service in June 2014. Hence I will be able to take AP or A Level next year. I haven’t taken my SATs though. Any idea how that will affect my applications?

Get in touch with the Singapore office of EducationUSA for ideas about which exams to take and when. They are the experts on this. EducationUSA is a not-for-profit organization, and the staff pride themselves on providing accurate, unbiased information. You would be in good hands there.

There also is a small Singapore sub-forum here inside the International Students Forum. If you go to the main page where all of the forums are listed, and scroll down, you will find it.

Good luck!

Ok thanks for the advice!
