advice needed for Taiwanese student

I attend the math and science gifted class in one of the better high schools in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. My class ranking is 7/40, which isn't even in the top 10%, however, I am ranked
16/707 in the whole school, which is in the top 3%.I know the common application asks for my class ranking in the education section, but I don't think it can fully reflect my academic achievements. I was wondering if I can fill in 16/707 instead of 7/40?

The second thing I wanted to ask is if anyone could give me some school suggestions?

My got 2020 for my SAT( CR610,M760,WR650 )
I took two SAT subject tests, math 2 and physics, in which i got 800 and 780.
My GPA is around 3.8
I don't have outstanding ECs, but I think i have a decent story for my common application essay.
My interests are mainly in business (economics and finance)
I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions of the best business schools my grades could get me into and some safety schools.
(I don't need need-base financial aid)

I thank you gratefully in advance!

“class” is out of 707. Very few ‘class’ in the American sense of the word would only have 40 students if you live in a town or city (a class of 40= a school with about 150-170 students – the entire school would be under 200 students, which is not common outside of rural areas).

You can also put “unranked” and have your counselor detail what is required to enter your school, to maintain good grades, how those grades correlate to the national examinations, etc.

If you don’t need financial aid, Baruch is a safety.
Matches would include Colgate, American University.
Reaches would include Georgetown, NYU Stern, Williams.

thanks MYOS1634 for your suggestions. From your reply I’m guessing that there’s only one class per grade in the US? In Taiwan, There are many classes per grade. In my school, there are 19 classes in each grade. Other than that I’m very grateful for your suggestions.
Also, I was wondering if you could spare some time to look over my common application essay? Not many teachers in Taiwan are proficient in English.
Last thing, just out of curiosity, what grades do you need to get into Wharton?

“class” in the US has several meaning. But “Class of 2014” for example means: all students enrolled in the last year of high school (academic, vocational, etc) that will graduate from the same school in 2014.
“class” also means a subject, a course, that a group of students take together.
American students choose their subjects, so that they’re not together all the time taking the same classes. Very few students have the same schedule with the same subject at the same time, all day long.
However, when the commonapp says “rank in class”, they mean “are you ranked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, top 10%”… compared to the other students scheduled to receive a diploma in 2014?

So in this case, me putting 16/707 is correct then right? As there are 707 people scheduled to receive a diploma in 2014.

Thank you soooo much for your help!

I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!

Yes you are correct. If there are 707 students scheduled to receive a diploma and you rank 16th, then your rank is 16/707. Congratulations, that’s impressive!
