I'm a junior in high school, and I took the test in September for the first time. I was aiming for a high score on the ACT, and was absolutely thrilled to see straight 36s on English, reading, and math. It was definitely not expected. However, my science score was a 27. Science is my favorite subject, but I had not known what to expect for science and ended up messing a lot of it up. I've also read on here that this month's test had a very difficult science section, which makes me feel a little better about goofing it up.

My composite score is a 34, but will colleges find a 36-36-36-27 strange? I'm still at the beginning of my junior year, so I would have time to retake it. Thanks for any replies, I'm looking forward to hearing some advice.

Yup, if I were you I would retake it. Similarly, I got a 34 english, 35, math, 36, reading, 31, science. So that ended up being a 34. This science section was definitely significantly harder than others, so I think it would be to your benefit to take it again. Obviously you are able to get 36’s on the other sections, and it won’t be hard to improve your science score. Taking it again would almost definitely yield you a higher composite score.

I agree. Since you have time on your side (you were smart to take the test early), it is wise to try and bring up that Science score. But first, do some prep. It is as much a reading comprehension section as it is a science section. I recommend buying Princeton Review’s Math and Science Workout for the ACT. This will give you the strategy you need. Best wishes!

Clearly, your composite score is excellent, but if I were you, (If I were even capable of getting an almost perfect score on the ACT), I would try to bring my science score so that it can be more consistent with the other scores. Science on the ACT tends to be very difficult, so you should probably buy some prep books that are just meant to prepare for the science section.
