Hi all,
This is my first discussion so I apologize if this is a bit long. I have attended Loyola University Chicago (national univ) from 2011 to mid-2013 and again this past Fall. I also went to Dominican Univ. (regional univ) from 2014-2015. I’m currently a junior bio undergrad. I have a low GPA because I dropped out (due to family issues) mid-semester at Loyola. I want to retake the classes because I never officially withdrew a couple classes and they showed up as F’s (I regret it so much). Additionally, the Dominican classes seem easier for me, it’s less expensive, and the commute would be 4 times less than what I travel daily to Loyola. I was thinking of transferring back to Dominican so I could higher my GPA. I don’t know if this is wise- I transferred back to Loyola this fall because I’ve always wanted to graduate from here but overall I want a competitive GPA. I am struggling a bit with classes here, while I feel at Dominican classes were at a good pace. Do med schools look at what school you graduate from? would it hurt me if I transferred to Dominican? I also plan on taking a post bac program.
And thank you in advance!
Am I reading this right? You started at Loyola, transferred to Dominican, transferred a 2nd time back to Loyola and now you’re thinking of transferring a 3rd time back to Dominican?
Yes… i know it looks badly… i went to dominican last year suddenly…i didnt want to miss another year of school… i looked online also to see if switching school would be looked down upon in med school applications but everything i looked at said it was okay and didnt matter
“both lower mean MCAT exam scores and acceptance rates to medical school.”
I’m curious how much of the latter is explained by the former.
I doubt the literal fact of multiple transfers plays much of a role, if any. But the lack of strong LORs, longitudinal experiences at school, and whatever factors are compelling multiple transfers do probably hurt ones chances.
Thanks you guys! I have decided to stay
