Advice NEEDED!!!

So, I was admitted to Boston University, UVa, Northwestern and waitlisted at UChicago. I most likely will not know the UChicago decision by July 1. I already paid a deposit to keep my place at UVa and have to reply to Nortwestern by June 29. Now, I dont know what to do...

McIntire School of Commerce is nationally ranked 2nd and there I will be able to continue working towards my business degree. However, Northwestern is also a great school with a great Economics department. Economics is actually what I always wanted to study. Besides I love Chicago.

Btw, I'm not considering BU so I'm deciding between NU and UVa. And yeah, UChicago is my first choice and if i'm admitted I will probably attend it...

So, i'm totally confused now and ask for your help.

northwestern would be my choice.

Northwestern is known for having a stronger Econ program than UChicago (Econ is probably one of Northwestern's stongest majors). Even though I am incredibly biased towards NU and would DIE to get in there, Northwestern looks like the better of the two options.

Go for NW, its a much better school, and you'll have many more opportunites there, as compared to Virginia , (though Mcintire is great too)

my vote is for northwestern...but if you got into chicago then i'd definitely go there

Virginia has a fine economics department too. But if you love Chicago, why are you hesitating?

You have two great choices (maybe three). Go with your gut. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=51596

Thanks a lot for your advice! It was all very useful. I think i'm going to Nortwestern in the end. My professors are also for this school and I personally feel it will be a better place for me. I'm so excited now ))))

tori are you ****ing KIDDING ME

uchicago's econ department is LEAPS AND BOUNDS above northwestern's econ department i dont even know where to beGIN proving this. ask for an extension on the deadline from northwestern. that's my advice. see if you can get in chicago. jeez

do you think it is possible to get an extension? i remember someone was told by northwestern that if one is ready to commit one would pay deposit bla bla bla... anyway i will try to call them

btw, it is quite possible that NU has a better econ department

If your choice is NU over UVa, then be sure to hold your place at NU. You don't know what will happen with UChicago.

Zemookmook, ok, chill. I am only passing the information along that I've heard. I've always read (not just on this forum, although there have been several threads about NU over UChic for econ) that NU has the stronger econ program. I'm not saying this because I love NU (which I do), but because I've heard that econ is one of NU's strongest majors. True, maybe UChic has a great econ program too, but I've always heard NU ranked higher than it. Either way, Aletheia is going to get a GREAT education wherever he/she goes, and ultimately the choice is up to him/her.

.....her =)

Haha, thanks. =) Aletheia sounded feminine to me, but I've stepped on enough toes than to say that without knowing.

I found that some schools will readily grant extensions on your reply/deposit. Others won't even consider it. It certainly won't hurt to ask. If they won't extend, then hold your place at NU. Good luck.

aletheia , i am assuming you are a transfer.. since you started this one on the transfer thread..
Can you tell me which school are u transferring from ..
and what year are you(fres./soph./ju)

osu_ib, yeah i'm transferring from Moscow University Touro, which is a branch of Touro College NY in Russia. i'm sophomore and hope! will be a junior (feels like they won't accept most of my credits)

yey, i got an extention on the reply deadline from NU! cool))) now hope that chicago will give their decision by July 7th. zemookmook and jmmom, thanks for your advice to ask for an extension!
