Advice Needed

Hi. I will be a freshman entering college this fall. I intend to major in Biology and declare myself as a premed student. I have registered to take Intro to Bio, Bio Lab, Intro to Chem, Calculus, and Psychology. This all add up to be 15 hours of credit. Is this too much for my first semester of first year? Should I drop Bio Lab and replace it with Economics? I have been told that taking a variety of classes is beneficial. However, I would love to read opinions of others. Thanks.

I would suggest taking a variety of courses. All your courses seem very science-y; what about taking a theater or literature class to balance out your schedule? I recommend taking a light schedule your first semester so that you have time to make friends and do fun stuff. And I'm just curious, why are you posting this on the Dartmouth forum if you're attending elsewhere?

So that I may not be limited to certain views.

thopeful, not being "limited to certain views" won't get you anywhere. The only "view" that matters is the one that applies to the school you're going to. Every college is different. What's true for courses at Dartmouth may not be true for courses at Yale, or UNC or U Mass. You'll get a better answer from kids who know your own school and how intense the classes are.

Thanks BigGreeJen for your suggestion and Chedva for your parochial view.

I just wanted to know what other people, who had more experience than I, had to say. That is all.

I don't understand why you posted the same question on the boards of each ivy league school where it is apparent that you are not simultaneously enrolled in each school. I agree with Chedva that you would be better served asking this questions to students at the school that you will be actually attending.

thopeful:
without knowing the school to which you are maticulating, it is hard to offer advice. For example, at the UCs, Bio is typically a soph course; what is Intro to Bio?

Not to mention that at Dartmouth, specifically, students typically take only three courses per term because of the quarter system and they don't go by credit hours, so any answer will be particularly misleading and unhelpful to the OP.
