Advice of laptop

I want to purchase a new laptop for college. Does IU have a program for students to purchase laptops at discounted prices? also do they have a program to service those laptops if needed? I know there is a Best Buy in Bloomington. Trying to find a good deal and tech help if needed. Any help would be appreciated.

Above are the different discount programs that IU has with various vendors. Not much, but something. Generally speaking, your only real service options are Best Buy or the Mac Experience (Macs only)

Not much savings at all. I guess no real benefit buying through IU. My brother bought his at school and saved a lot of money plus they have a warranty/service program. Think I will shop around and see what Best Buy has to offer. At least if something happens I know I can have it serviced there.

Yankees maybe wait till orientation? At Red Carpet Day on my tour the students said hold off on buying technology because you can get it cheaper through IU. But that might have only been for software. I’d call, I think you can find a deal.

Software comes dirt cheap from IU or even free. If you can find a cheap laptop that has older software versions you can buy quick upgrades from IU.

Thanks I will wait to after orientation. My concern, besides price, is that if something happens to my laptop I want to make sure I can get it fixed. Being OOS makes it a little more complicated.

All students have free access to their tech support, which is from what I really good. I don’t know how invasive they are, but my mom also got me a one year subscription to Geek Squad just in case since there’s a Best Buy down the street from the Kelley LLC. (also OOS)

Coste…did you buy your laptop at Best Buy or from IU?

Best Buy. But I remember specifically talking to students at Red Carpet Day who said if you haven’t bought any computer oriented items for college yet, don’t because you can get a discount. I don’t know if that’s for whole systems though.

software is dirt cheap or free through IUware.

IU offers no hardware support, much like a lot of other schools. They do have some limited software support–ie, you can take it to the UITS desk at Wells and they’ll take a look at it, but that’s about it. Mac Experience (for Mac products) or Best Buy are your options for hardware support/fixes
